Stigmatodactylus antennatus Schuit., Saputra & Wanma,in Schuiteman, Saputra, Wanma et Heatubun, 2026. DOI: doi.org/10.3390/plants15040589 facebook.com/Rezamonium AbstractTwo species of Stigmatodactylus have recently been observed in the Arfak Mountains of West Papua Province, Indonesian New Guinea. One of these is clearly undescribed and is here described as Stigmatodactylus antennatus Schuit., Saputra & Wanma, a species uniquely characterised by the presence of a pair of antennae on the lip. The other is believed to be S. gibbsiae (Kores) Kores. This species was only known from the type material collected in the Arfak Mountains more than a century ago, in 1913. There are, however, significant discrepancies between the protologue and the material recently found. We interpret these discrepancies as misinterpretations of the poor type material of S. gibbsiae, and provide images based on fresh material. An identification key to the four species of Stigmatodactylus in New Guinea is included. Keywords: Acianthus; Arfak mountains; identification key; taxonomy Stigmatodactylus antennatus. (A) Plant habit; (B) flower; (C) dorsal sepal; (D) lateral sepal; (E) petal; (F) lip; (G) lip callus; (H) column. Drawn after the type material by André Schuiteman. Stigmatodactylus antennatus.(a) In situ, Schuiteman et al. 23-277; (b) inflorescence, Schuiteman et al. 24-102; (c) flower detail showing callus with antennae, Schuiteman et al. 23-277. Scientists are exploring an exciting idea for future space missions: building structures on the Moon using the Moon’s own soil. A new study shows that simulated lunar dirt can be turned into strong, heat-resistant materials with a special type of 3D printing, potentially reducing the need to transport heavy construction supplies from Earth. The Moon’s […]

One of the most important of these nutrients is glutamine, a building block used to make proteins and DNA. Many tumors become […]

You pull on your rain jacket, step out into the storm, and within half an hour your undershirt is soaked. The jacket you purchased as “waterproof” seems to have stopped working, and all the marketing claims feel a bit suspect. In reality, the jacket probably hasn’t failed overnight: a mix of how it’s built, the […]

Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common long-term illnesses in the world, and its effects reach far beyond blood sugar. Over time, high sugar levels can damage blood vessels, nerves, kidneys, eyes, and especially the heart. Staying active becomes more difficult as people grow older, especially for those living with chronic health problems such as diabetes, asthma, or joint pain. Many forms of exercise can feel too demanding or uncomfortable, leading to reduced physical activity and declining health over time. A new study from New Zealand suggests that electric bicycles, also […]
